Philosophy

The Rodney Fertility Clinic's approach to fertility management has always been influenced by a knowledge that conception is much more than a simple co-ordination of eggs and sperm, tubes and hormones.  Despite medicines's increasing awareness of the scientific principles determining fertility, many couples continue to experience unexplained infertility, whilst perversely other couples conceive despite major deficiencies in their fertility parameters.

Emotional and psychological factors clearly play a major role in both the causation and the consequences of infertility, along with other, as yet, unknown and undefined mechanisms.  The philosophy of Your Fertile Mind's approach is to work with patients in a way that is both supportive and holistic in order to maximise the inate fertility of such individuals and couples, and hence the likelyhood of their achieving a conception, whether naturally or through some form of assisted repoductive treatment. The principles underlying this approach are those of:

- Empowerment - through information, explanation, and a non-judgemental and patient-focussed service.

- Accessability - an affordable service for couples, single male and female patients, lesbian and gay patients, of any age.

-Holism - using a combination of scientific, medical, emotional and alternative therapies as appropriate to the needs of individual patients.

- Support - through the provision of appropriate and empathic counselling throughout the infertility journey.

Much of the intimacy and magic of lovemaking and fertility has, of necessity, been lost in the unavoidable mechanisation of conception.  Your Fertile Mind tries to redress this balance by returning some of this intimacy and control to patients, without losing sight of medical and scientific priorities.

The success of this approach can be measured in several ways: by a general improvement in mood and confidence, by improvements in the formal medical parameters of fertility such as hormones and sperm function, and of course, most importantly, by a pregnancy.
